Operation FM

Spending Thursday afternoon in Royston with Operation FM was a brilliant treat. Celebrating the newest member to the band Grant Tuffs (drummer) it was time to get some new promotional images.

The weather wasn't quite the sunset we had for the last shoot, but the dramatic and moody skies came out for us, and the rain held off.

With all the snow we had (last time), I could resist but get a model out into the snow. Charlotte was brilliant too, very much up for wearing the black dress in the snow, which was perfect for the shots we were both looking for. Out in Letchworth, Hertfordshire was where we captured the images below.

Location Portrait Course

Having been asked to run some courses by several other photographers, I am starting off by running a one day Location Portrait Course on Wednesday 11th November 09.

The course is only £75 per photographer. Running from 9.30 - 16.30 and will be either in letchworth or Weston, Herts.

I will be covering both use of natural light and reflectors with simple posing techniques to create great results.

Thursday night I found myself offering to help out Royston Photographic Society with the location portrait session they were holding, on the Health in Royston.

Lisa and Daniel's wedding

Congratulations Lisa and Daniel. Married at the Broadway hotel, in Letchworth on Monday.

The wedding and reception was lovely, even if we had to run for shelter when the rain started. But it didn't stay for long and we managed to get some gorgeous shots outside.

The DJ Mark, recommend by the Broadway Hotel, played some great music, and your first dance was brilliant. Even the speeches went well, all that worry for nothing.

Welcome to my first blog interview. I have decided to add something different to my blog, interviewing different people that offer services to myself and my clients. I will try to include a few images from them too.

It has been a privilege to work with Manisha from BlackTrack Effect previously with models. When thinking of people to interview for my blog, I thought of her straight away. A make-up artist has so much to offer photography, and is always a great asset at a photo shoot.

How about starting off with a little bit about you the person?
I had the usual lifepath mapped out...nursery....school.....6th Form...University....then boring office job! I worked as a Project Manager at Barclays and then a Management Consultant I kept on track until early 2008. Not sure what came over me but I just wanted to do something more creative and definitely more fun! It is hilarious I turn up to work with my power suit and talk about the economy and current affairs, then after office hours out comes the eyeshadows and blush with much talk about Cheryl Cole’s latest outfit. Great fun and certainly adds variety to the week. I am professionally trained in hair and makeup and have done many assignments ranging from bridal, fashion shows, special occasion to editorial shoots.
Friends and clients would describe me as ultra-friendly, self motivated, approachable and someone who loves a giggle.
I am married and live in London…..I love London….it is my playground and my most favourite city in the world. I have travelled a lot with work but I still get that ‘I am home’ smile on my face as I land at Heathrow airport.

When did you start up your business BlackTrack Effect?
I started BlackTrack Effect in early 2008. There is a team of us, managed by me, which go out to clients and provide any type of hair and makeup services.

Your website (www.blacktrackeffect.com) looks great, I see that you offer lots of hair and make-up services, which at the moment would you say is the most popular?
Without a doubt bridal and photography hair and makeup is the most popular. Brides want to look stunning on their big day and the right professional hair and make-up accentuates that radiance. Photography make-up is more creative and you get to work as part of a team. I love bringing a concept or theme to life, the result is a beautiful photo which reminds me why I do this job.
Photography make-up can range from helping aspiring models get their portfolios live, a simple family portrait or a wacky editorial shoot.

A big part of our cliental is weddings, what services do you offer for brides?
I do a full hair and make-up service for brides which includes a trial. The consultation process is really important as it gives the bride the chance to experiment with different looks and colours. We would sit down with the bride, discuss the dress, theme of the wedding, colour scheme, face shape, eye colour, complexity of the hair and make-up etc…..and finally devise the final look so everything is interlaced.
I recognise that weddings are really daunting for brides-to-be; we endeavour to ensure we meet all her requirements so that the last thing she needs to worry about on the day is the way she looks. The hair and make-up will be long-lasting, elegant and above all…stunning. I am a perfectionist, and I could not let a bride walk down the aisle without perfect hair and make-up

Completely off the track of make-up... what’s your favourite hobby?
I love shopping, eating, working out and catching up with friends. I have started enjoying cooking recently which is a really weird concept for me, as I use to hate cooking and would much prefer to speed dial Dominos pizza.

What is the most memorable hair and make-up work you have had to do?
I recently did London Fashion week, wow that was manic. For a particular show I was waiting for my models. Then in comes this HOT Abercrombie and Fitch male model. I had to rub foundation all over his body…it was definitely a memorable moment.
I did this amazing shoot in Paris…..fierce models, Dior and Chanel couture and the Eiffel Tower….so memorable as it was my first ever high-end fashion shoot.

Is there any make-up style you would love to do, but haven’t been able to yet?
Swarovski crystals and feathers on the face….divine! I would love to create a swarovski crystal mask over one eye and then have it coming up into the hair with feathers poking out. Sounds weird but it will look great.
I also want to capture a great shot of lips covered with swarovski crystals. I am like a magpie....I love sparkly things

Focus on Imaging

Today I ventured to Birmingham to Focus on Imaging exhibition at the NEC. It's always great to catch up with fellow photographers, and suppliers and this years show was no exception.

There were some great acrylic products and new albums so watch this space for them to arrive on the website.

The last few days has seen me non-stop at the computer editing various photoshoots - with new lights and backdrop, creating more powerful and exciting images that will suit anyone's home. I still have a few spaces for studio shoots on the 7th/8th March, so book in now before its too late.

Equanimity Images is offering a couple their wedding photography for free in Hertfordshire and is also helping out with this project as much as I can.

Information below..

The deal is that a photographer will come along and take photos at your wedding for free. You will get a DVD of your photos as a minimum. Some photographers may offer you more. But you must raise AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE for Cancer Research

With lots of amazing acts including, The Penny Dreadfuls, Eight and Fred's Flying Circus, not forgetting Dawn French's visit to talk about her new book.

SWPP convention

Having spent most of last week at the SWPP convention I realised it was time I caught up with this blog.

The convention was a great chance to meet some well known professional photographers, getting to view their work and learn how they work.

A chance to look round the trade show and meet various suppliers of the industry and look at the new product range that is being introduced into 2008.

I am looking forward to seeing what this year brings.... I hope that it brings everything you want.

Christmas Craft Fair

I am helping to organise a Christmas craft fair at Arlesey Town Football Club. This is on the 17th November 2007 and will between 10.00 and 17.00
